Of all the photographs I have ever taken, none of them composed themselves, except one. This photo taken in 2004 in De Rust happened purely by chance and is one of my own personal favorites.
I had stopped for a scenic break driving from Uniondale back to Knysna, after passing this donkey cart and family making their way out of town. When I then saw it again as it approached, I snapped it while standing next to the road on a wall much higher than the road.
I took just one picture, but how perfectly this one picture captured the essence of technology in terms of a lens, by making the old and slow in-focus, and, the new and fast blurred, symbolizing each mode of transport’s place and age in time.
